Well Chosen, now on with the test

INSTRUCTIONS

The test which you are about to participate is centred around visual aesthetics, it is important that before continuing you have read through this entire page carefully.

Having read these instructions you will be shown a page containing 8 Impressionist paintings.

Please look at each painting in turn for about 5 - 10 seconds, If neccesary you can click upon the pictures for a larger look

Your task will be to rank the paintings in order of to how aesthetically pleasing you find them. ('Aesthetically pleasing' refers to how easy on the eye the pictures are, how pleasant you find them to look at.)

Whilst making your decisions it is important to bear in mind that you must ONLY judge the paintings by how nice they are to look at, not by how much you like them or not. Although it is very difficult you must try and take care not to be influenced by the quality of the painting, the subjects depicted in the painting or how much you like or dislike the genre of painting (e.g. Landscapes) This is of course very tricky, so there is no need to spend too long deliberating, often your gut instincts are the most informative of all.

You need to decide on a running order beginning with whichever painting you find most aesthetically pleasing (pleasant to look at) and ending with whichever painting you find least aesthetically pleasing.

The painting which you find most aesthetically pleasing should be awarded Rank 1, and the least pleasing Rank 8. If there are two paintings which you cannot separate from each other then you can award them the same rank.

The most important thing that you are judging is the general ease with which these paintings can be looked at.

At the bottom of the page will be a table which you can fill in as you decide upon your rank order

Thank you very much
